Popular restaurant booms during Restaurant Week, gears up for milestone

The dinner crowd this night may be credited in part to a special event, but it is a Saturday, after all — and weekends here make for one happening spot. By the hour, the traffic pouring in for dinner at Rathbun’s in Atlanta’s Inman Park area multiplied. Part of the reason may have been Inman Park Restaurant Week (this year from March 17 to 23). The other part — the sheer popularity of this place.
Much of the success has to do with the appeal of the restaurant’s owner, celebrity chef Kevin Rathbun. Through Rathbun’s, the winner from Food Network’s “Chopped” and “Iron Chef America” serves up his take on Modern American Cuisine.
He’s gearing up for the 10th anniversary of Rathbun’s — voted by Esquire magazine as one of the top new restaurants in the country — with a barbecue celebration set for May 4.
For Inman Park Restaurant Week in March, the restaurant offered a $25 menu that included appetizers such as Crispy Calamari, entrees to include NY Strip and Flash Fried Haddock and Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie for dessert.
Guests also could choose from the regular menu — including winners such as Tarragon Roasted Chicken with Vermont Butter Mashed Potatoes; Lobster Taco, a signature item; and Cauliflower Mash, a signature side plate.
During this press visit, the wait staff was attentive, and Chef de Cuisine Nicholas Anderson made sure to stop by to check on the overall experience.
Along with Kevin Rathbun, Rathbun’s is owned by Cliff Bramble and Kirk Parks. Since opening his first restaurant in 2004, Rathbun has opened Krog Bar, Kevin Rathbun Steak and KR Steakbar.
