The Bascom Is Facing A Change In Leadership

Yes, one person can make a big difference.

Jane Jerry, Executive Director of The Bascom Visual Arts Center in Highlands, North Carolina, has announced her plan to step down, due to family health circumstances.

In announcing her decision, Jerry said, “My husband,George, sustained a severe spinal cord injury in April 2012.For the first time in my museum career, I haven’t been available to work 24/7. These circumstances caused me to redefine the ways I can best serve The Bascom in the future.

Bascom Board Chair T.Wayne Davis expressed his reaction to Jerry’s decision: “Under Jane’s leadership, The Bascom has grown in stature nationally, as evidenced by the fact that Highlands was recently designated one of the top 12 small town ‘ArtPlaces’ in the nation, and The Bascom was called out by name for this designation.

“Regionally, The Bascom is now recognized as a significant tourist destination. And locally, The Bascom is recommended by residents and shopkeepers alike as the ‘go-to’ place for enjoyable and entertaining exhibitions, engaging programs and workshops, and opportunities forbuilding skills in all of the visual arts.”

A Search Committee has been formed and Jane Jerry will be working with the committee to find her successor as Executive Director. That’s a tough act to follow.  Whoever succeeds Jane Jerry will have some mighty big shoes to fill.  She will be missed.

The Bascom is open year-round, Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, 12 noon to 5 pm. Enjoy workshops, exhibitions, special events, quality programs and unique shopping throughout the year at The Bascom.
