Restaurant Week Begins!

Cobb Restaurant Week and Midtown Restaurant Week Get Underway
By Shandra Hill Smith

If you’ve been planning to check out that new restaurant, but just haven’t fit it in your calendar yet or you’re craving to try something new on a favorite eatery’s menu, this week may be the perfect time. Both Cobb Restaurant Week and Midtown Restaurant Week are taking place starting Sunday, September 7. Cobb Restaurant Week ends Saturday, September 14, with Midtown Restaurant Week wrapping the next day.

It’s an opportunity to try a three-course meal either for $15, $25 or $35 per person (plus tax and tips).

The three-course Prix Fixe Dinner Menu at South City Kitchen Vinings includes a choice of appetizer such as Old Charleston She-Crab Soup, entrée such as Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and dessert including choice of banana pudding, chocolate bread pudding and ice cream (from High Road Craft Ice Cream & Sorbet).
You can’t go wrong with anything from High Road Craft and the Old Charleston She-Crab Soup and Buttermilk Fried Chicken with smashed bliss potatoes (mashed) and garlic collard greens are worth the drive each day of restaurant week! On the regular menu (outside of Cobb Restaurant Week), you also can have a gluten-free, grilled form of the chicken. Other everyday menu items you’ll want to return for include Fried Green Tomatoes with goat cheese, sweet pepper coulis and basil, along with the she-crab soup, mac and cheese, lobster mac and cheese and Georges Bank Scallops.

The ambiance and service at South City Kitchen Midtown — a Fifth Group Restaurants Concept — also will have you coming back. Plus, you’re in good hands with Beverage Manager Allan Kieffer.
In Midtown, Zocalo Mexican Kitchen & Cantina is offering both lunch and dinner menus during Midtown Restaurant Week.

The $15 lunch at Zocalo — a Richard Sandoval restaurant — includes two starters: mushroom huarache (corn masa flatbread, bean puree, caramelized onion, Mexican cheese and crema); or shrimp ceviche. Two of the entrees include cheese enchilada and steak alambre tacos.

From Zocalo’s daily menu, you’ll want to be sure to try the guacamole, which a server prepares right before you at your table. Other winners include grilled shrimp fajitas and Achiote Salmon with mild spice-citrus marinade, tomatillo mango sauce and sweet corn tamal.

This is one popular place where empty seats are few and far between.

The great food and drinks plus al fresco dining that serves up plenty of people watching and sights and sounds you’ll only find in Midtown add up to a few of the reasons why.
